Bridal Makeup FAQ

When I started planning my own wedding last year, I finally understood why brides are so stressed. I had so many questions, because normally you don’t have a lot of experience in planning weddings! That’s why I decided to do a bridal makeup FAQ.

  • How much do you charge for a bridal makeup?

A bridal makeup consultation costs €130 with me. The bridal makeup itself will be €100.

I offer various value packages and additional services. Please contact me if you are interested in these!

  • How can I book you for my wedding date? Do you need a deposit?

If you would like to book me for a trial run or for your wedding, you can use the contact form to reach out to me.

It would be great if you mention your wedding date, that way I can tell you right away if I am available.

I always charge and treat the consultation completely separate to the bridal makeup itself. This way you do not feel any pressure to book me, in case you do not feel comfortable with me as your makeup artist.

  • Do you use airbrush in your bridal makeup?

Airbrush is included in every bridal makeup, if it matches your skin type. My favorite foundation for brides is the Temptu Perfect Canvas 24-Hour Hydra Lock Foundation. This foundation has a semi-matte finish, great durability and is applied via airbrush compressor. Only if a bride has very dry skin, I might suggest to use the Face Atelier Ultra Foundation instead. Sometimes I also like to use the Sian Richards 4K Longwear Cream.

  • How can I pay you?

You can pay me in cash, by card or with Apple Pay. On the wedding day itself, I can send you an invoice after the event, to minimize stress. I would need your address and e-mail address for this.

  • What happens at a trial run for bridal makeup?

At the trial run we start by discussing in detail what your vision is, what your dress looks like, if you have a theme, etc. The makeup look should match your wedding! Maybe we can look at some inspirational photos together, so I can get an idea of what you are looking for.

I will then do a very natural makeup on you, that enhances your features, but doesn’t hide them. It will be you, just with a few tweaks. Then we will see together where your bridal makeup will go!

As the name says, the trail run is to try things out. Maybe you never wear make up and you don’t really know what it looks like on you. Or you’ve never worn fake lashes and you want to try out if you like them. Everything is possible.

I take note of all products used in the final look and take photos for reference. This way I can make sure that I can recreate the makeup on your wedding day perfectly.

Of course the trial run is also for me as a make up artist. You can see if you like me and my style and if we have the right chemistry.

Last but not least, the trial run also tests the durability of the makeup and may reveal possible allergies.

  • Do I really need a trial run?

I do not do bridal makeups without a consultation. Your wedding should be the best day of your life, you should not risk not having the perfect makeup!

  • How long does a trial run take? How long will the bridal makeup take?

I like to plan in a lot of time for the trial run. You can expect 1-3 hours. If I am also doing your hair, it will take longer than that.

On your actual wedding day, everything will be very quick. I prepare all the products needed and know exactly what I’m doing. Normally a makeup on the wedding day does not take longer than 1 hour, depending on complexity.

  • Why is bridal makeup so expensive?

There are several factors that make a bridal makeup more expensive than a normal beauty makeup: time, durability and types of products.

Time: as already mentioned, a trial run needs a lot of time. I love to take it, but it is a large difference if I am doing an evening look in 60 minutes or I spend 4-5 hours with my bride.

Type of product: The products used for a bridal makeup have to be of very high quality. They also have to be suitable for HD (for beautiful photos and videos) and they have to last a long time. This has its price. So material cost is much higher for a bridal makeup than for a normal beauty makeup.

Durability: Products of high quality, that last a long time are often more expensive than makeup for everyday use. You also need to prep the skin very well before applying the makeup. For example, all my brides get a facial mask before the makeup application.

You also need more products than normal for durability. It is best to work in thin but many layers and take cream as well as powder products. If you work in any thin layers, it doesn’t matter if the uppermost layer comes of a little, since there are so many nice layers underneath it.

  • What happens if you can’t make it on my wedding day?

Firstly, that has never happened! In times like these, of course it is possible to test positive for SARS-CoV-2 or show symptoms and have to cancel. Luckily I have a lot of very talented colleagues that could possibly take your appointment in an absolute emergency. I will do a briefing with them with your face chart and photos. It is also possible to transfer my products to another make up artist.

  • My wedding was cancelled due to SARS-CoV-2, do I still have to pay you?

No, at the moment I do not charge anything for cancellations, not even last minute cancellations I don’t think it would be fair to punish someone for something they cannot control. I also would like to prevent people from going to appointments, even though they are sick.

  • Do you normally do a lot of bridal work?

When I first started working as a make up artist, it was not my main focus to do bridal makeup. I wanted to focus on teaching people who may not feel very beautiful. However, it seems that I have a very calming aura and brides like having me around on their wedding. With time I learned to love bridal makeup and now it is one of my main jobs as a make up artist.

  • Do you have a portfolio?

Yes, of course! Here is my portfolio.

  • What is your background? Where did you learn to do makeup?

You can find out things about me here.

  • Can you do my bridesmaid’s, mother’s, MIL’s, etc. makeup?

Yes, this is possible. Every added guest costs 60€. You just have to consider that time is a factor. Every additional makeup takes 30-60 minutes.

  • Can you do my makeup like on my inspiration pictures?

I love getting inspiration pictures! This makes it easier for me to understand your vision. I will not be able to recreate every makeup look one to one, but the style can be recreated. Also, not every makeup suits every face shape. A good make up artist works with every face and personality individually. One size does not fit all.

  • What products do you use?

I only use high quality, cruelty-free and HD suitable products. You can find more about the products I use here:

Cruelty-free and Vegan

  • How will my makeup stay fresh all day?

You can book me for several hours, that way it is my responsibility to make sure you look perfect at all times! However I do realize, that not everyone has the budget for that. So every bride of mine gets their own touch up kit. This contains all the products you need to stay fresh all day, like a sample of your lipstick, powder, powder puff, oil blotting papers, etc.

  • I have problematic skin, can you still do my makeup?

Yes, of course! I suffered from acne for years, so I know a little something about hiding imperfections. It would not be a bad idea to tell me about the things you are unhappy with in advanced, so I can prepare my products I take to you accordingly. But if you don’t want to do that, that’s totally fine!

If you have any allergies, please let me know in advanced, so I can eliminate those products for my kit before meeting you.

  • Can you cover up my tattoo?

Yes, of course! You just have to remember that the makeup my rub off on your dress, depending on location.

  • Do you use fake lashes?

Fake lashes are included in every bridal makeup, but you don’t have to wear them. I do advise all brides to at least look at themselves with lashes at the trial run. I only use individual lashes, unless strip lashes are specifically asked for.

In my experience, most brides who have never worn fake lashes before get a little shock when they see themselves in the mirror. But they get used to them quickly and a lot of times they ask for even more lashes on their wedding day.

  • Where does the trial run take place and where to you do my makeup on my wedding day?

Both can happen either at my studio in the 22nd district or I will come to your location. However, transport fees to apply.

  • How my appointments will you have on my wedding day?

Your bridal makeup will be my only appointment on that day. I do not want to risk not making it to an appointment, so this date is reserved exclusively for you.

  • How can you ensure my safety in this pandemic?

Please read my post on “Safety on Set”. I do my absolute most to ensure your and my safety.

  • Do you also do hair?

I am not a trained hairdresser and if you want something very complicated, I prefer to let the experts do that.

I have educated myself a lot in the past couple of years, especially focussing on bridal hairstyles, so I am offering all kinds of hairstyles at relatively low price, until I am comfortable enough to charge full price.

All hairstyles in my portfolio are mine. If you are unsure, you can always send me inspirations pictures and I will try to recreate something similar on my practice head and send it to you beforehand.

Ok, I hope this was useful for you! If you still have questions, just contact me 🙂

I hope you have a wonderful day!
